[livesupport-dev] html gui menu
  • Hi,

I'm a little unclear about the html gui menu. Do you all want it to be a
tab through menu or drop down? If drop down, do you want it to be
horizontal (where the menu is vertical, but the drop down items or displayed
horizontally) or vertical (the opposite)? I just want to make sure that I'm
building and designing the right thing.

    Thanks,
    Sangita

and you touched the very core *issue* we are all discussing in different
lists at the moment... but that is a different story.

    here my suggestion:

    both.

    because:

for the GUIGUI (as opposed to HTML) we decided to group functionality and
represent them as sets in each palette.

in order to mimic this *palette* feeling i can see tabs running across the
    top (underneath the logo etc.)

the palette itself has different layouts in the GUIGUI, too. so i think
    there should be various options.

some will use the entire screen beneath the tabs (e.g. the scheduler
    interface).

others might have a list of functions to be applied, like editing and
displayling metatags. there the functionality should either run across
underneath the tabs or in a column on the side of the screen.

personally, i like the pulldown a lot. so that could mean something *like*
tabs on the top with pulldowns. still, if i choose a functionality from the
pulldown of the tab, like *edit metatags* i would expect the equivalent of
the *palette* to come up, meaning:

choosing from the pulldown, i will arrive at:
    a) the function i chose (like *edit metatag*)
    b) the palette cluster for *file management* (with the other functions from
the pulldown running down a column on the left.

this idea is not dissimilar to the general idea of software usability,
where there are always more than one way to get to a function.

in word, the icons are set on the top. other software, such as photoshop
allows to choose functions from the pulldown and then activates the palette
with the properties on the screen.

does this help? i fear i am a bit unclear in parts, because i have three
other software packages in mind in order to find a solution for livesupport
that sets a path for other developments.

    but lets intensify this discussion,
