[campsite-dev] Press release for Campsite 3.2 "David"
  • Hi all,

Please excuse my cross-posting, but we could use your help in getting word
out about the Campsite 3.2 release. I've written a press release that I've
sent out to a couple of journalists covering the world of open source
software (at Linux.com and at Tectonic, a South African site that's gotten
us a lot of coverage in the past). But we can always use more coverage and
    interest.

I'm including the press release here for you. Feel free to pass it on to
those you think may be interested. It's also up on the Campware website:
    http://www.campware.org/en/camp/campsite_news/755/

    Best regards,

    doug

  • hello,

i was just trying to make a quick fix to doug's request to make a list
of attached files beneath an article in campsite - and i thought i just
go to the manual and copy and paste the code:

    http://code.campware.org/manuals/campsite/3.2/index.php?id=140

    what i find is this:

    {{ list_article_attachments [length=""]
    [columns=""]
    [all_languages="true|false"]

    {{ /list_article_attachments }}

but no more information on what could be the **.

i think it would be great to have some samples for such features.

    all the best, micz
  • means any Smarty statement. Any template is written
out of a list of Smarty instructions inserted in the HTML code.

  • hi john,

there is a link in the online manual for the sample templates. and i
remember that in the *old days* there was a separate download. but this
link seems to link to the campsite package:
    http://code.campware.org/manuals/campsite/3.2/index.php?id=115
(this is the same problem or feature for the manual and the campware
    site i realised)

we are also working on a set of templates right now and once that's done
we wanted to use snippets from these to illustrate code in the manual.
do you have access to the manual as an editor? i will send you the bunch
of code as soon as the project is finished (within a week, i hope).

thanks and all the best, micz

  • No I don't have the access as an editor, and I have experienced the
same Issue, the download for the template link is not valid, but when
you can provide me one or two download templates, I can create
multiple templates from you create, and hopefully we can start some
type template program and add widgets, to the templates and we can use
the funds to promote the product. Let me know when you have created a
couple templates we can use this site as a demo, or create another

  • hi john,

this would be great. in fact, i was just chatting with doug from prague
who will (hopefully) come to berlin next weekend and we work on this
issue for two solid days. my main problem with the current sample
    templates are that
    a) they are not easily modified with CSS
    b) they don't demonstrate in all cases the *best practice* of campsite
    code

so my idea was to create a sample database for a set of sample
templates. and possibly we can use this mailing list to define what they
should do (include). and - to keep simple things simple - i suggest to
split functionality into basic and advanced.

    basic
    - one language
    - issues (with archive)
    - comments
    - sections
    - two article types (possibly only one?)

    advanced
    - multilingual
    - subscriptions for sections
    - ???

  • I agree, and English as the default language, and then we can always
get some to to translate to other languages but we need to make sure
the template is easily modified the more complex it is makes it more
    difficult.

Let me know what you guys come up with.

  • This is a great idea. Here are my suggestions:

  • hi sava,

thanks for the upgrade. i was wondering about modules like *polls*.
ideally, the sample database and sample templates would be simple to
install, so i don't know how to handle modules like *polls* because this
might not be in the campsite install out of the box - or is it?

  • I believe we have them in the standard tarball... We should have this
    (remember the Martin Hala syndrome?).

We should also track the list of features in current templates, and make
sure we showcase new ones as they come along (talking about the advanced
    ones)...

    What do you think?

  • hm... the beauty of modules is that you can NOT install them, i.e. your
admin interface and potential server load (internal hooks and db
queries) stay clean and slim. on the other hand, yes, i think standards
like a voting (poll) should be easy to install or be available in the
standard install anyway. what's the current situation?

    a) do we have the long planned "module API" for easy installation and
    maintenance?

    b) what "modules" ship with the default install and are activated on
    install anyway?

  • They are available in the standard install (although there was some
dependency problem which made them not work in the latest release--it's
already been fixed in 3.2.1 code). And there is an admin page where you can
    install them easily.

Currently they are enabled by default, but I think Michal's idea (we
discussed it here) to have them installed by default (they are tiny in
terms of download) but disabled (there is a switch to enable them).

this would be good. and the sample db with the templates would come with
the modules switched on. so that would work.
