Campsite 2.3.0 install problem
  • Using puTTy.exe as ssh client, I migrate to my campsite directory ans type './install'. I am not logged in as root, but instructions say I will be prompted for root password. That does not happen. As soon as I type install, I get error message: './install: Permission denied.'

Why do I not get the prompt for root password?

    Thanks for your help.

  • The install script does not have execution rights. Type:
    chmod +x install

    in your campsite sources directory.

  • Thanks to the both of you for your prompt replies. I chmoded the file and got past the problem. But another problem came up, and now I think I understand what is wrong.

I'm trying to install a third-party server-wide application on a shared hosting server. My shared hosting provider does not allow this. Do any of them?

Is Campsite designed to be run on a dedicated server?
  • On a shared hosting server you need an access to cron and to apache
configuration, you need access to database and besides you need root for
    the server.
Therefore Campsite needs to be provided by hosting company to get it and
usually low cost hosting companies are not capable to provide you all
    these.

  • Thank you for your advice.

I have already contacted my provider about upgrading to a dedicated server.
  • Hi,

Yes, Campsite works only on a dedicated server for now. We're planning to
rewrite the template engine into PHP in version 3.0 so it can be installed on
shared hosting servers or even on Windows.
