[campsite-dev] Campsite 2.6 beta on monday
  • Lets shoot to release Campsite 2.6 BETA on monday, as well as a call to
arms for the localizers. Hopfully we can release later in the week -
thursday or friday. We hope to coordinate the release with the
announcement of the support contracts, so we might delay the release
    even if it is "done".

This means we want to try to squash all known bugs by Monday morning, as
well as the testing checklist completed for both firefox and IE. I'll
be working over the weekend to make this happen.

  • Paul, unfortunately I'm out of town this weekend for my conference, as
you know. I'll get to the bugs related to ATs on Monday morning /
    Sunday night.

I finished up the bottom half of the checklist in both IE and Firefox.
I was not able to do the top half in time before I left, although I
    had wanted to.

    Good luck!

  • Hi Paul,

I assigned the ticket 1704 - Document the subscription by language feature - to you, I don't have time to do it, have to finish with 2.6 asap because:
    - I have to do some urgent work for MDLF's loan management application - it will take 1 week
    - I have to get back to the PHP template engine asap, we're already late here

If I keep working on 2.6 I won't be able to recover the time lost for 3.0.

Regarding 2.6, I did all the other tickets that were assigned to me except:
    - 2037 - Preview function is broken with multiple publications - it will be done by Tuesday morning
    - 2034 - Add ability to set topic by ID and show topic ID in the template language - it will be done by Tuesday morning
    - 1832 - Demo template README doesn't tell you to restart template engine - reassigned it to Peter (see the comment)

  • As far as the remaining tickets go, sounds good.

One big question - it sounds like you are working on the 3.0 PHP
template engine - and the specs arent even done!  At least as far as I
know?  You sent out some specs a while ago, I gave you feedback, and
then no further word from you which I assumed meant you werent working
on it.  Also, those were *very* partial specs you sent out.  There is
still a ton to discuss about it including syntax, how it will be
integrated into Smarty, how Smarty can be changed to allow better error
reporting, how caching will be done, will it be possible to turn
everything into static pages, how to make it so they can directly
access all data in the database, are we going to get rid of those EDIT
statements, how to integrate PHP, etc.  All of this should be placed on
the wiki as an evolving specification.  If you are working on it, then
the code should be checked in as a branch.  Everything should be an
open process, so that everyone sees what everyone else is doing.  How
    come this isnt happening?

  • Paul, I said I would start working on the PHP template engine, which means I didn't work on it for a while. The *very* partial specs I sent were all the work I could do on the template engine before starting the work on 2.6 - comments and many other new tickets that weren't planned for me. Not that I'm complaining, but just in case you want to ask what did I do in all this time. And regarding the time I spend on Campsite work, I'm sorry if I'm not up to your demands but unlike you I have a family, a small child and maybe a few more problems to take care of. Anyway, don't worry, I only ask from Sava for the amount I earned - and he can confirm it - not more, so I'm not depleting the Campsite funds for nothing.

I sent my suggestions to the list and as I remember I answered to your suggestions - also on the list - so I don't know what's not open about it.

Regarding the Edit statements, as I said in another email, we don't need to get rid of them: the user is able to use them of write the input fields manually and I already documented this (see http://code.campware.org/manuals/campsite/2.6/index.php?id=105 at the bottom). So it seems to me that I did implement your suggestion.

    Regards,
    Mugur

  • Sorry about that, I misinterpreted that you getting back to the PHP
template engine meant you had already started working on it.  I didnt
mean to put any more stress into your life!  As far as the process
goes, I was thinking that we should post the design on the wiki, and
update it as it evolved.  Otherwise, if someone posts a comment and we
agree that its a good idea, but it doesnt go back into the spec, we
wont know what we are implementing.  So thats the only remaining
    thing.  Sorry about the confusion!
