[campsite-dev] Campsite Addons
  • I would like to ask about the campsite addons. In my opinion it is about
the time to make final decision how various campsite addons will be
    stored and handled.
    What I mean is following:
    1) The folder where all addons are stored
    2) The naming conventions (name of addon tables inside of campsite
    database etc.)
    3) The way of adding addon's specific user rights or including it to
    admin interface

I open this topic for the reason TOL small addon features should be
changed a little corresponding with the redesign and I would like to
make them much closer to campsite.
    These features are:
    - Article Mover
    - Send article to friend
    - Online discussion

Sideways I plan to have some external application (gallery) which should
closely cooperate with campsite and may be I would instruct the
developper team to make it as another addon.

As a big fan of Gallery, I would love to see it work through the PHP
wrapper with Campsite. It's very widely used, and other CMSes (the Nuke
clones come to mind quickly) have Gallery support.

As I understand it, PHP gallery stores photos in static locations on the
file system, but Campsite stores photos as blobs inside the MySQL
    database, in the images table.

Ondro, would you have to make a choice at installation to use one method
or the other for handling images, or could you choose on the fly? Would it
make sense to allow users to specify how the images would be handled?

Looking forward to seeing this in action,

    doug

I am thinking about Gallery in wider context. In my opinion it shall not =
be the part of admin interface at all and method of storing pictures =
shall not be connected to campsite at all. The reason is the different =
    purpose.
    My idea is:

    1) Base gallery - evidence of photographs and their personal info, each =
photograph has a chance to upload pictures to kind of photoalbums with =
comments. The visitor can access photoalbums through photographer's =
    profile.

    2) Virtual exhibition hall - Allows photographer to shedule an =
    exhibition

The gallery shall have its folder (addon one) and each registered =
photographer shall have own subfolder. In photographers subfolder will =
be other folders depending on his albums.

    The connection to campsite:
    - It shall be able to make site in campsite annoncing new exhibition =
(and add some picture from gallery to the article)
    - galery admin shall have a chance to choose if exhibition hall is free =
    or subscribers only
    - Photographer shall have a chance to choose if his albums are free or =
    subscribers only

When I am thinking about the way how to link external pictures to =
campsite, it would be nice to have "upload image" interface enabling =
external url and copying the picture to campsite. It is because I plan =
to have kind of limited space for photographers and during the time they =
can delete albums and make picture no longer aviable.

In campsite 2.2 images will be stored in the file-system, not in the database.

  • I searched freshmeat and foud this:
    http://coppermine.sf.net

It looks nice to me and the template system is similar to PHPBB2
As annonced, this gallery is used in PHPNuke and other CMSs, so why not to
    choose this one?
It has described interface for connecting users and I believe it is possible to
make some bridge between access to pictures in this gallery and campsite.
As authors write, they allow user sync with PHPBB2 and it has the feature of
discussion to each picture in the gallery. I did not check whether through its
own software or through PHPBB2, but it should work.

If this works well, I vote for making some interface "easy add pictures from
this gallery to campsite article" and that would be it Smile
