    What exsactly term reads means in campsite?
    {{ $campsite->article->reads }}

    Does this number grows only when someone opens the full article?
    Or contribute to the growth of reads also other calls 
    (on front page headlines, rss ..., headlines on section pages)?

    yes, it's article page read, every time a user opens an article it adds +1 read.

    but first you must in
    Article type list
    checked which field (is content). (only full text is valid if you try to have real statistic)
