Master / Show Can't Connect. Ports confirmed open. Traktor / Butt / Broadcastmyself
  • Thanks for taking the time to check this out. I am completely at a loss at this point and don't know how to resolve this problem.

Everything on the server seems to be running very well and I thought my install battle was over. Until I tried to use Master and Show

My setup is on a VPN running Ubuntu 14.04 and I am running Airtime 2.5.2

I've read all the guides, help files and pretty much everything google would spit out at me for at least 10 hours....

Everyone who seems to have this similar problem usually has their login details incorrect or ports not setup correctly in their server/firewall settings.

I've confirmed the the ports are open and every possible way to enter the login/server data I could think of into three different programs. All of which I have successfully used to connect to an Icecast server before.

Also I have connected to Icecast itself in place of Airtime just to make sure it wasn't a client issue of some sort (even though my understanding is Icecast has really very little to say about the master/show connections.

Anyone have any ideas of what I may have wrong? I am sort of assuming it has to be something in some setting file somewhere...

  • You're using the address to the right of the Master Source Connection URL -- right?

  • I truly wish I was not, that would be all to easy.

I'm familiar with connecting to these types of servers, i'm not really all that confused about that portion of it. Even if I was not, i've tried every variation possible, again, in three programs trying to get in or a glimpse of a identified bug. /master, master, /master.ogg, master.ogg, mp3, /mp3 etc etc. source, blank. Direct ip/hostname.

    So I think I may have found an issue. I was going through my;
    /usr/share/airtime/application/configs/application.ini
    /usr/share/airtime/build/build.properties
    /usr/share/airtime/build/runtime-conf.xml
And they did not save with my database password. I've always had to restart the servers a few times to get everything to stick in the beginnings when making changes.
Could this be part of the issue? I went through and added my password to these just now, we will see what it does. But on one of them it says manual changes will be overwritten.

reading some help files, i see there was once a command: sudo airtime-update-db-settings
However that is now lost in this version because they feel we don't need shortcode debug commands?

Towards Sourcefabric, I've tried many of your installers and this is by far the easiest. However, I think you jumped the gun removing the short codes. You at least need to post a reference to their longhand methods. Your manuals are not always the most complete, the installations are obviously never perfect. So old information, while it may be outdated may shed light on current issues. You have completely disabled utilizing old troubleshooting tips from 80% of the forums history.
The software is absolutely amazing and beautiful when it runs though. There's a reason why I am giving up so much sleep to try and make this work.....
  • I personally have not tested most things on 2.5.2 and therefore,I cannot fully comment on what are the real fixed suffice to say
    • Use a stable version of 2.5.1.6 and see if all works
    • If you can post any log from ls_script I may be able to assist

and not all versions of butt is compatible with >2.5.1.6

    This is telling

I have said this over and over.

    • 2.5.2 should have being introduced as 2.6 (new Feature is the api etc.) then fixed all the necessary and port back to 2.5.
    • Make 2.6 and beyond with great emphasis on >ubuntu 14.04 / debian 8  compatible

persons with knowledge of 2.3 to 2.5 will have grave difficulty making these transitions and thank the heavens they never just force this change on us by pushing it in the repository.

The advantage of that is we can run branch 2.5 as stable and 2.6 as alpha. and so you could install 2.5 to any customer and upgrade to 2.6 when stable ( well this is some what is happening now) but I hope nothing major (security wise) occurs and they have to upgrade because all hell would break lose.

In the meantime,I am toying with radiodj, because I do not want an embrassment.
