Site Does not Exist error in Apache Configuration - Manual Install

    I am doing a manual install of Newscoop so I can create the VirtualHost (I have Airtime on my system and a conflict for localhost).  I progressed through all steps in the Manual Install section of the manual, including all dependencies (mysql, php5, etc.).  I get to step 3 under Apache Configuration and get a 'not found' error message when I enter 'sudo a2ensite newscoop'.  Also, if I run the command  '/etc/init.d/apache2 reload' - I get a 'not found' error.  If I browse to the /etc/ directory - I find the 'init.d' file.  I am not a Linux expert and need help in sorting this out.  Thanks
