    I have been playing with Airtime over the last few days and have to say that I absolutely love it and I am hoping to implement it for many clients as an alternative to Centova which has been giving me grief for some time.

    I have two queries.

    Basic install on a dedicated box puts Icecast in and so I have been able to stream run airtime and stream out form the same server (which is awesome for anyone who wants a great listener limit because you can get a lot of listeners on a 1gig port!).  Would shoutcast work also rather than icecase, ie can shoutcast be installed to run on the same server as airtime?

    Secondly and perhaps more importantly, is it possible to install multiple instances of airtime on one server?  For some small non profit stations who get a handful of listeners putting it into a dedicated box it going to be hard.  I have never worked with VM's before but just curious if that is really required.  I mean... forget the streaming out... lets say i stream to another shourcast server... the default install goes to airtime.domain.com or domain.com/airtime so is there any way of setting up multiple instances of airtime for example.  airtime1.domain.com, airtime2.domain.com and so on?

    Any advice would be really appreciated and well done airtime for a great product!

    Hi Mike,

    Yep, you can use shoutcast as well as/instead of icecast for streaming: just configure the "Service type" options for output streams via the web interface at /Preference/stream-setting. More information on configuring input and output streams is in the user guide at http://sourcefabric.booktype.pro/airtime-25-for-broadcasters/stream-settings/

    Regarding multiple instances, I'd recommend getting your hands dirty with LXC (https://linuxcontainers.org/) - the learning curve is pretty low, plenty of "geting started" documentation available online and packages are available on Ubuntu. You could maintain a single icecast/shoutcast server with all the required mountpoints outside the LXC environment.

    I had never heard of LXC but you are right there seems to be a lot of documentation out there so I will have a play and "get my hands dirty"!  From a quick read this makes more sense than using virtual machines and splitting resources!  Thanks!  Crikey, more learning!
