Install problems under Plesk
  • Hi there,

I am trying to install Newscoop under Plesk (version 8.2) and am encountering some problems. I uploaded the Newscoop software through FTP and followed steps 1 to 4 in the how to (https://wiki.sourcefabric.org/display/CS/Install+Newscoop+Under+Plesk). In step 5 I should go to my domain and follow the installation steps, but nothing happens. There appears no installation screen.

Now, there is a footnote with a troubleshootinh, which says this: In case the installation screen doesn't show up in step 5, most probably
you need to change permissions with chown -R apache:apache
    /var/www/vhosts/yourdomain.com/httpdocs

I have no idea how to do this. Can someone please help me with this, I imagine, very simple problem? I am a complete newbie and have to learn a lot, so easy step by step advice will be very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance!

    Marcel

newscoop is not suitable for shared hosting. It's hard to install by newbie. Newscoop requires virtual or dedicated server.
  • Helou... I recent see the post...:(
I you dont't have root permition, you can do that.  But I think you have root permition, plex can do that (or sudo command)... then in a console (conectes by ssh), write:
    chown -R apache:apache /var/www/vhosts/yourdomain.com/httpdocs
Some times the user of thise file (and oders...) is "www-data"...

And how tell the other friends... yes we need a VPS or dedicated server. Sorry!!
    Best for you
