Airtime UTF Error - Airtime Support Discussions on Sourcefabric Forum

Hi,
New to the forum. I'll start by saying I have no dev or tech knowledge. I am installing Airtime on a VPS and got the error regarding the non UTF location. I used the interface to change it but the changes are not sticking. It also mentions setting the default on the second page but there is no second page. I have searched the forums and Google but have not come across a clear straightforward answer.

Also, I wonder since this seems to be a common problem (as well as the Liquidsoap error) why are there no straightforward fixes? BTW my server is Debian 6, which I switched to JUST to try to make this install easier.

this is the problem with vps...
they have a minimal configuration
you must add some feature to them
you can find documentation about that on google : debian locales utf8 (for example)

after that's depending of your vps...

Thanks for the reply. The answer to my question ended up being that in order to select the UTF settings in the interface I needed to use the space bar. Once I figure that out I went here http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14355/problem-with-postgresql-encoding-installing-airtime/p1

you need to configure locales on your system before installing airtime and postgresql effectively

Creating a system with a default UTF-8 locale is something almost every modern operating system does these days. A UTF-8 locale allows characters from any language (Russian, Korean, Chinese, English etc.), and as you probably know this is important for libraries where tracks often have strange characters in them.

Unfortunately a lot of VPS do not configure their system correctly, and then Airtime has problems installing. Why are these VPS system set up like this I don't know, but when it happens it's a pain to fix - and not much we can do about. Hope that explains it!
