Airtime Questions/Suggestions

    Hey Guys, i am new to Airtime, and so far its an amazing program, i have some Questions i am unclear on so far and also i have some suggestions i think would really improve Airtime

    Questions
    1 - I have a database of music from my old radio station, its roughly 1TB of organized and tagged MP3's/M4A's
    its folder hierarchy is like so. (Genre > Band Name > Album Name > MP3's/M4A's)
    I thought i would be able to simply copy the folder over to my Ubuntu server that is running Airtime and point it to the folder using the watched folder?
    Is that what the watched folder is for? i don't want to spend days uploading a Terabyte of music through the airtime "Add Media" up-loader.

    2 - Is it at all possible to just start playing some music outside of a show? there will be nights when no shows are on so i want to just drop in a smart block and play it, so far the only way i have found to do this is to create a recurring untitled show.

    3 - Airtime is running from a home server and i want it to be accessible over the internet for interstate DJ's and preferably without compromising my home network. I know how to open the ports but it just does not feel safe, i have thought of purchasing a Hamachi license but that would require every DJ to install it. Has anyone got any creative or good ideas to have their Airtime server accessible and secure over the internet?

    Suggestions
    1 - Allow the "Add Media" Upload to accept folders
    2 - Implement something like JRecorder to the "Add Media" section to allow DJ's to record and upload talk segments without leaving Airtime
    3 - Some additional media controls would be great.. Pause, Play, Skip Song
    4 - More customizable user rights and information (i.e disable uploading on a DJ if they are abusing it, and being able to store their Facebook details)
    5 - Show what users are currently online and being able to view their contact information (Skype/mobile phone)
    6 - A Mobile App or web skin would be amazing

    Hi,

    1) This is indeed what a watched folder is for. It will scan your entire
    directory and automatically add it to the library. Be aware that in 2.3.0
    this will take some time due to each track being scanned for
    leading/trailing silence to set cue points. However, there is a workaround
    to disable if you are interested.

    2) Everything that is scheduled needs to be within a show.

    3) You only need to open port 80 to allow users to access the Airtime web
    interface. In this way your server is "exposed" as every other server on
    the internet and can be considered secure.

    Thanks for the suggestions. We are constantly reevaluating features for
    future versions based on user feedback.

    Thanks for the response Martin,

    I am still having issue with the watched folders not showing the bulk of my music, this is my main problem right now.

    - I re-installed airtime and copied over 100GB of music to the server.
    - i added the 100GB music folder as a watched folder and pressed the rescan button
    - Nothing happened after an hour, nothing was in my library
    - I ran sudo service airtime-media-monitor restart
    - After another hour only 295 of my 28,000 songs were added

    And it has been at that stage since, i am unsure to what is causing this.



    EDIT: It has slowly been adding the music, it has taken about 12 hours to add 14,000 songs thats roughly 50GB, going by that it would take 24 hours to add 100GB of music
    the Terabyte of music i plan to add will take 10 days, the server is rather good too with quad core and 6GB of ram, is this normal? is there any way to speed this up?

    Thanks Alexandru for the pointer,

    I re-installed ubuntu and reinstalled airtime and it seems to have added most of my songs in under an hour

    as a test i removed the media source and re-added it, it wouldn't import it again, so i moved it all to a different directory and added the new source as a watched folder and it did it without issue.
