Yes there is. But it's very limited, i.e. hasn't been touched since 2000 or
so. It is definitely on our todo list for the future. You should use Google
for the moment, or feel free to help us implement a better one.

Yes, if we decide to go with Campsite I will need to develop a search mechanism. Editors will need to be able to search on title, writer, date, section, topics, etc.
I was talking about front-end search. The back-end search would be easier
to implement, and it is on our roadmap (though it's been postponed over and
over again). FYI, the ticket is at http://code.campware.org/projects/campsite/ticket/263
If you choose Campsite, we'd appreciate any help in that respect.

Right now it works something like that, but actually searching is more
complex. With Campsite you can define customized article types, so
fields like XArticle are not fixed/static fields, you could have X
fields as many article topics and more because only one article type
can have multiple searchable fields.
That is why Sava told you basic searching is implemented, hopefully at
some time in the future we will have a better and more intelligent
search engine. We do not want only a typical engine, that is what
other CMSs out there have, we want a search engine who understand the
nature of the content it is looking for, all of this because Campsite
is a specialized CMSs for media news content.

I am not a templater, nor am I a developer. I just manage/juggle the whole
of Campware. But I am also aware that this is not a huge task, it just got
pushed aside by other priorities, such as porting the parser from C++ to
PHP. We are actually planning to introduce it in one of the post 3.0
releases (currently slated for 3.1), but if you beat us to it, or help us
with it in any way, all the merrier.
