The groups feature allows to organise larger teams in groups. For smaller projects, like one book with max. ten contributors, this feature might not help to improve productivity. Imagine a publishing house with hundreds of books, the "groups" will be a way to manage workflows and communication.

Since it is a feature of Booktype, it is available for all users. But it is empty unless / until the project owners start creating and managing teams.
