[campsite-support] Campsite 3.0 manual
  • Dear users,

You can browse now the new Campsite 3.0 manual at this URL:
    http://code.campware.org/manuals/campsite/3.0/

It is not finished yet but the manual structure is final. The chapters
INTRODUCTION, INSTALLATION, PUBLISHING WITH CAMPSITE, CAMPSITE
ADMINISTRATION, ADD-ONS are 95% done. The only chapter that needs more work
is CREATING TEMPLATES FOR YOUR PUBLICATION, although you can find most of
the new language statements already described here.

Hope this helps with the testing,
    Mugur

  • Hi Dome,

I'm happy to hear this news; we will set up a server - when releasing the
second beta - where you will be able to log in and translate the user
    interface.

    Thank you,
    Mugur

  • Dear Sebastain,

How are you? Long time no see Smile I uploaded the new CampURIShortNames.php
last night to the site (ajaxstudio.com) but it didn't change anything. Am I
suppose to reinstall campsite with this new file, i.e. is it used in the
    installation process?

If you need access to the server, let me know and I'll email you the access
    details.

    Thanks a lot

P.S. Did ANYONE successfully install the Campsite 3.0 beta online???

  • hi Raed !

    - Yep, installation process writes config files so it needs permission
on filesystem. Installer is being improved for second release, it
already has got new good changes (better error and help messages, demo
    site load at installation time).

    - Right url to access admin area is http:://your.domain/admin/
    in your specific case: http://www.ajaxstudio.com/admin/
    direct link like http://www.ajaxstudio.com/admin-files/login.php
does not work as you already know

    - This error message:
Notice: Campsite error: not valid site alias in
    /home/ajaxstud/public_html/template_engine/classes/CampTemplate.php on
    line 119
is normal and happens when you do not have configured a site alias for
    your web site.
Error messages at frontend is something we are going to work to improve.

Let us know whether you can reach admin area and anything else you consider...

    Best,

  • Dear Holman,

    - Yep, installation process writes config files so it needs permission
on filesystem. Installer is being improved for second release, it
already has got new good changes (better error and help messages, demo
    site load at installation time).

The installer doesn't detect if you are installing on PHP 4 or PHP5. If the
server is PHP4, it throws a php error (T_CLASS error). The installer should
check the PHP version instead of throwing a PHP error. Also why the
installer needs 777 permissions when the apache is running under the same
user that owns the files?! And if it needs these permissions, the installer
should check that they are writable in the first step of the installer. Just
    my feedback about the installer.

    - Right url to access admin area is http:://your.domain/admin/
    in your specific case: http://www.ajaxstudio.com/admin/
    direct link like http://www.ajaxstudio.com/admin-files/login.php
does not work as you already know.

I know that however as I stated in my last post, we get a 404 error when
accessing http://www.ajaxstudio.com/admin/. We found a htaccess file in the
site implementation folder and when we activate it (by renaming it to
.htaccess) it throws a 500 error on all pages under the domain.

If you need access to the site to better check it, just let me know.

    Thanks

  • Hi Read,

    anything well here in Berlin.

Did not know you don't setup an site alias. But anyway, there is an bug in
the existing CampURIShortNames.php, which would appear in your case (the "t"
would be eaten in www.ajaxstudio.com). So before or after you reinstall,
replace the file. With the existing one, you would need to setup site alias
    as www.ajaxsudio.com.

    Hope this helps,
    Sebastian

  • Hi all
    Wishing all a pleasant 2008.
Im not sure if I can post back to this support list directly. I have
been receiving news and so forth for some years now. However we have
had lots of bad luck with setting up Campsite, especially with
    incompatible dependencies etc
Our most recent failure was attempting to set it up on an OSX
    box....Imagemagick doesnt port.

Any chance there is a VMware version of the latest build available,
or is this an insider knowledge only CMS?
With a Virtual machine we could really see if it now fits the
conditions needed for our Newspaper site (www.namibian.com.na). We
did get a working copy of Campsite running in 2004, but a patch
    update broke it.
Any help would be very welcome.

  • If I was you, I would simply install ubuntu server and use the prebuild
package. The native OSX server is too diferent to expect linux aplication
    to work without further tweaking.
Or you can try the campsite 3.0 beta, which does not contain any
    problematic C++ based code.
In any case running a server on vmware fusion is something, I would be
scared to do, as on my laptop it is far from being stable or optimized and
it slows down the OSX or it is too slow to run as a server.
