Some suggestions
  • I hosted a Live365 program for years, using Winamp and a playlist that incorporated top of the hour, quarter hour and half hour station IDs, commercial spots and PSAs.  All of this was programmed into one .m3u file.

I'd like to see a playlist import of an m3u file, which brings me to the other suggestion.  Be able to create folders for the non-music files, such as spots, Ids, bumpers, etc.  This would then support the way the m3u captured the source folders.

I am looking forward to creating a great station with Airtime.

  • Thanks for the kind words :)

Playlist import has been requested a few times and may make it into the next major release of Airtime.

  • Instead of folders for the non-music items, I highly suggest the use of scheduler codes, as they can be utilized by the smart playlist feature for auto building playlists.

  • I guess scheduler codes and tags are interchangeable? We plan on being able to tag files, and then use these tags as selection criteria for generating Smart Playlists.

Yes, they can be. I think integrating them as tags is not a bad idea either, as opposed to just additional database fields. In the Rivendell world, scheduler codes exist solely in the database. They are also the only way to keep track of things like genre, but that allows multiple genre to be set. There are also some huge drawbacks to the way that RD has integrated scheduler codes. They actually use them for too many different things, and it makes it very confusing for users and makes searching large music libraries difficult.

  • I guess that Rivendell schedule codes and Airtime tags are the exact same concept then. Tags would only be stored in the database as data that marks a file as "night time only" has no business being stored in the file itself.
