[campsite-support] Previous questions
  • I'm going to design the initial structure of the web and I'd like to know
    your opinion about these questions:

    - What is the best system for a newspaper diary:
Just one issue with a cover that changes everyday, or one issue per day? I
think it is the last one, but just for being sure about it.

    - What is the best system to handle special
features, for instance: 'The dotcom crash' with its own cover, related
    articles and polls.

    - What is the best system to handle documental
content, like records about people, companies

For a daily newspaper, the best way is to create one issue per day. It keeps things tidy, gives you an instant sorting of archive by day.

here you should hear from other experienced Campsite developers, but my guess is you could use topics to do a lot of the stuff you need.

Ah, early on we had a feature called glossary, which we stopped supporting. That was tailor-made for what you are asking (it allowed you to link to whole file on someone, e.g. Bill Gates, or just to the relevant part of it -- e.g. his love life or creative genius or whatever). The feature was simply way ahead of its time. Perhaps we should resurrect it, but it would take some resources and some re-thinking/updating. For now you may try creating a separate publication and store everything there, then use internal links from articles... But again, other developers may have better ideas

  • I have nothing to add...

  • Thanks for the good advices.

Is there any way to copy the previous issue to the new one, so we only have
to delete or modify news for the new day?
  • Do you want to copy all of the articles, or just the structure(i.e. the
    sections without the articles)?
To copy the structure, go to your publication, click "add new issue",
and select "use the structure of the previous issue".

If you want to copy all the articles in the old issue, we currently dont
have a way to do that with one click, but it could be done by copying
all the sections of the old issue to the new issue. To copy a section,
go to the section list, then click on "duplicate" for each section.

  • I am afrais I did not catch 100% of your question, but you can move
article from any publication/issue/section to another.

  • Think about it as a 8.00 to 22.00 hour news service. At the begin of the new
day you have to use the news of previous day, and then update or delete
them. It's easier than beginning from scratch.

I will try the duplication system. Thank you very much.

  • I would simply let homepage to display last x entered articles with
issue off. In that case you can simply add new issue with no content and
    readers still see the content.
But this is only a suggestion.

  • I wouldn't say it's a suggestion. That is the only sensible way of doing
it. Forget duplication. This does what you want 100%.
