Bit of trouble... http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14113/bit-of-trouble... Thu, 17 May 2012 06:37:35 -0400 John Flower 14113@/discussions Anyways, I'm having a bit of trouble installing. I should note I am using nginx, instead of apache, and command line install, rather than the .deb install method.
Attached is my install log and a truncated pypo.log.

Airtime as the international rights licensing solution? http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14101/airtime-as-the-international-rights-licensing-solution Mon, 14 May 2012 06:59:12 -0400 Daniel James 14101@/discussions
So why not place an Airtime server in each country you want to stream to, complying with national licensing regulations, but pulling content and schedule data from a network of other Airtime instances? We already have the beginning of an API for schedule export, and data can be shared over rsync. We can then have decentralised syndication, but with a shared schedule that can be altered locally, for example to insert your local news bulletins.

This would also help solve one of the other problems for media start-ups, which is that producing 24/7 original content is really expensive (the reason why so many radio stations now rely on music automation to fill time).

Airtime would then be not just another broadcast automation application that happens to run on the web, but a platform for solving your pressing business problems of licensing and production costs. All you then have to do is find other radio stations that you want to share your original content with.

You no longer care that you can't afford US streaming royalties, because your content can appear on dozens of US stations. Or if you have more commercial ambitions, you can rent secondary servers in the US and do your licensing paperwork there.

Embedded Player Solution HTML5/iOS http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14099/embedded-player-solution-html5ios Sun, 13 May 2012 13:22:47 -0400 Bob Zurunclε 14099@/discussions
This might not be the best place for this question but I've not found the information I'm looking for online anywhere

As a part of the Airtime broadcast solution, I've cobbled together an embedded web player solution using a php script to read the content tags and ffmp3 to play the stream

The problem is it will not work with iOS seeing as the player core is based on flash

Is there an HTML5 solution that will work for iOS?

I've poked around and the code snippets that supposedly work don't for iphone/ipad

Obviously there might not be a complete solution but perhaps using browser detect and then provide a couple player options

Anyone tackled this issue?

Thanks

Setup Newscoup on EC2 (without a domain name) http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14089/setup-newscoup-on-ec2-without-a-domain-name Tue, 08 May 2012 13:45:27 -0400 Daniel Griffin 14089@/discussions I am trying to setup Newscoup on a micro instance of the Amazon AMI (CentOS) in EC2.  I have all the dependencies resolved but the only step from the manual (http://en.flossmanuals.net/newscoop-4-journalists-en-4-0/manual-installation/) that I can't complete is the virtual hosts setup.  This is an evaluation setup so there is no associated domain name, and I will need to share it with my colleagues so local hosts settings wont be enough.  When I try to run setup without this step I just get a blank page at http://instance_name/install/.  PHP errors are turned on but the source for the page is empty.  Does any one have any ideas how to get around this problem please?  Or perhaps I am doing something else incorrectly?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

What would be the most elegant way to automatically restart icecast?

Pseudo code:

Do while

Airtime = "on air" & Program Schedule = "active"

       If Airtime = "off air"
             restart icecast
             eMail Alert Someone
       End If

Next

Notes on Airtime 2.1.0 beta 6 http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14091/notes-on-airtime-2.1.0-beta-6 Wed, 09 May 2012 17:20:01 -0400 Wade Eilrich 14091@/discussions 1) Clean interface (headers, information, controls) in Playlist Builder
2) Sound preview - jPlayer works perfectly!
3) Color system for playlists and shows - very intuitive and helpful
4) System->Playout history - all the output format choices work perfectly

Things I'm having trouble with
1) Live shows - I can get a live show to run if I modify ls_script.liq, but I have yet to figure out how to use the web interface to create a show and plug it in seamlessly. For instance, I would like to make a show called "Live at Five"  and schedule a feed to interrupt whatever is playing at that time with the live show. To test it out, I use the Shoutcast plugin for WinAmp and mike myself. I  think I'm running afoul of the username/password fields in the System->Stream  settings. I have no mount point because it is Shoutcast. Oh well, I'm having fun playing with it and, for now, I can use the "default" setting in ls_script.liq  to cut over to the live show when it connects. I'm also looking at creating a  "harbor", but haven't gotten that to work correctly yet.
2) Hardware Audio Output - when I enable this, my stream never connects and I hear nothing from the speakers connected to the server. This probably has to do with the ALSA setup, but I know the sound hardware works because I've can manually play music through it to the speakers.

Airtime requirements for community radio http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14104/airtime-requirements-for-community-radio Mon, 14 May 2012 13:39:53 -0400 Todd Fisher Wallin 14104@/discussions
Here is my list of must haves, before we can put it into production at WDRT:

1) flac support - we have a library of over 30000 tracks and lossless is important to our workflow
2) read ALL of the airtime supported metadata fields from vorbis comments on import - currently if 'LABEL' is in the vorbis comments, it is not read into the database when you import the track and it is required for soundexchange reporting on our webstream here in the US... see #1
3) track statistics such as number of times played - this is critical for tracking underwriting spots

Other features that would be useful for community radio:

1) ability to manually start a playlist in case a live event goes over the scheduled time
2) the concept of scheduler codes for tracks that should only be played during certain time periods, or should expire after a certain date

I am more than willing to help in anyway that I can. I haven't written any code in years, but can hack my way around a bit, and I'm great at finding bugs!

Thoughts...

This is different to a previous error we had where the ecasound command wasn't even issued. Now the command is issued but returns an error code 1. Please see the attached logs. Luckily we are still running the other machine and recording from there.

Newscoop 4.0 beta!

Atentamente,

Claudia (en nombre de Adam Thomas)

Move Airtime web to other (web-)location http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14097/move-airtime-web-to-other-web-location Sun, 13 May 2012 05:33:32 -0400 FredFlinstone 14097@/discussions I have installed Airtime on Ubuntu Server 11. For this server I have not accessible port 8080, therefore I have to use only 80 port (for web purpose).
For default installation I have:
1.) in file "/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/airtime" (or mirrored file "/etc/sites-available/airtime") following content:
<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerAdmin ...
    DocumentRoot /usr/share/airtime/public
    php_admin_value upload_tmp_dir /tmp
    <Directory usr/share/airtime/public>
        DirectoryIndex index.php
        AllowOverride all
        Order allow,deny
        Allow from all
    </Directory>
</VirtualHost>
2.) in file "/etc/airtime/airtime.conf" is following content:
[database]
host - localhost
...
[rabbitmq]
host = 127.0.0.1
port = 5672
...
vhost = /
[general]
api_key = ...
web+server_user = www-data
airtime_dir = /usr/share/airtime
base+url = localhost
base_port = 80
...
3.) file "/etc/apache2/httpd.conf" is empty
If I try from some PC following URL:
http://218.76.65.129
is displayed home page of "Airtime" web site.

And now, I would like to change web-location for "Airtime" web pages to:
http://218.76.65.129/Airtime
(listen on the same port (80)), and base URL (http://218.76.65.129) remain to use for some other HTML page (or for some CMS system).

Please how can I change setting for Airtime and (or) for Apache for this issue?

PS: I try add row "ServerName Airtime" to file "/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/airtime", but it is not working. Again for base URL (http://218.76.65.129) is responsed "Airtime" (and for URL: http://218.76.65.129/Airtime, it is redirected to base URL (http://218.76.65.129) and displays "Airtime"page).

Please help me.

very thanks

What is the cc_subjs schema? http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14092/what-is-the-cc_subjs-schema Wed, 09 May 2012 21:01:37 -0400 John Galt 14092@/discussions 2.1 Beta Documentation on master/show sources, and LIVE Stream Show auth types. http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14088/2.1-beta-documentation-on-mastershow-sources-and-live-stream-show-auth-types. Tue, 08 May 2012 12:45:51 -0400 Stephen 14088@/discussions Are there beta docs for 2.1 yet?

Currently in 1.94,  i use icecast fallbacks, so live talk shows coming from freeswitch play if they exist, falling back to airtime playout when live stops automatically,  this works pretty well, but we still occasionaly have issues with different flash clients, and itunes etc... occasionaly not handling the fall back correctly

In 2.1 im looking to eliminate the icecast fallbacks all together and want to send live freeswitch stream direct to liqiidsoap.   I am able to connect to master source and switch manually in airtime between the master and scheduled play with butt source client,  but not sure if its possible to have airtime always revert to scheduled automatically when master disappears.

Also not clear on the LIVE STREAM option in show.

If i schedule in calendar a LIVE SHOW,  then start up master during this time does master or source  auto play? for show.

Any guidance much appreciated.   Im debugging the freeswitch/liquidsoap integration right now, it currently is crashing freeswitch, and giving me some auth issues.

Thanks

Stephen

UTF vs ISO postgresql solved / Debian Squeeze http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/14095/utf-vs-iso-postgresql-solved-debian-squeeze Sat, 12 May 2012 06:02:50 -0400 Fred Percevault 14095@/discussions Hello,

just to share my experience, I hope it can help, it's only my 2 cents not an "universal truth"  :-)

Locales and Postgresql :
I had to run "dpkg-reconfigure locales" and uncheck all "iso-8..."locales  BEFORE installing postgresql
since Postgresql only create Db in ISO encoding an not UTF when ISO locales are also selected (it was the case on my machine..)
I keep only UTF-8
(Its seems difficult to change DB encoding after install because you have to create an UTF8 cluster and move your previously ISO encoded DB" in it.)

Even if I "apt-get purge remove purge postgresql"... and reinstall it on UTF locales system, the airtime install goes wrong (???)

This must be made on fresh install (again it's my own experience , not the "holy truth")

apt-get vs aptitude :
When using aptitude postgresql 9.1 and 8.4 were proposed
I've experienced few trouble with that, because of dependecies unsatisfied...

My advice : use apt-get (8.4 only is proposed )

Rabbitmq-server :

When installing Rabbitmq with airtime, the install failed during rabbit start (as i remember)

My advice: install Rabbitmq BEFORE Airtime

Airtime 2.0.2 install problems (Debian&Ubuntu): Zend, root not accepted, dpkg http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/13924/airtime-2.0.2-install-problems-debianubuntu-zend-root-not-accepted-dpkg Sun, 01 Apr 2012 19:01:30 -0400 Andreas Vogelsang 13924@/discussions
First off I have to admit that I'm no hero with Linux. Learned enough to get Icecast running using Ices0 for providing an automated playlist. Now I want to take it a step further and use airtime. But no matter what I try (apt-get, minimal install, full install) I always get stuck with two problems:
- Problem with Zend
- airtime-check-system breaks off during the root user check (seems to try /whoami, which won't work on Debian as it's just whoami there)

I'm running Debian Squeeze on AMD64

Here's what happens:

Losing Playlists And Content In Playlists http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/13994/losing-playlists-and-content-in-playlists Sun, 22 Apr 2012 22:30:38 -0400 Bob Zurunclε 13994@/discussions
We've had list happen a couple times before and it just happened today wiping out a majority of our play lists

Running 2.0.3 with the content stored on an NAS and the playlist content will just disappear

The content is still on the NAS but not in the play lists

The playlists that survived we created using content stored locally on an internal hard drive

Is there any way to recover these lists?

Help
