Live show from line input not streaming

    Hi all,

I've managed to get airtime installed on Ubuntu 10.04 with icecast and have no problem streaming playlists. I have also recorded live shows from the line input and rebroadcast them at a later date, however the live shows are not broadcast as they happen - is this the expected behaviour? I would assume that live shows should be streamed live in real time - is there something I need to configure somewhere?

    thanks

    James

I really should have tested my expected behaviour because we do have a local studio and wanted to directly attach them to Airtime via ALSA-Input.
For us, this feature should have highest prioritiy available... ;-)
A lot of Community Radio Stations in Austria are awaiting my fieldreport of Airtime after going Live with it in January. But sadly I did expect the feature as described above. This is a feature, any of my colleagues expects this way...
Gladly, I got a Hardware-Ogg-Streamer to do arrange the following workaround:

We have to configure a Hardware-Ogg-Streamer as an Airtime-Show-Source, connect it with Outputs of the Studio-Mixer and send the signal through our LAN to Airtime.

If possible, please treat this feature and "Scheduling exact to the second" with a higher priority!

If I can help in any way without having much programming knowledge, I would love to mess around with liquidsoap ;-) currently I started translating Airtime to german language, as long as it has not been done yet.

Providing these features with summer 2013 would be very cool!

    thx for your explanation, martin

Good point, Airtime doesnt do that right now. I've created a ticket for
    this:

This hasn't been fixed yet. Recording shows has had a much lower use rate relative to other Airtime features, and as a result, those other features have received a higher priority. We still have this fix on our long list of TODO's.

I did not check this function yet, but I do expect the following behaviour:

If I select "Record from Line-In" in the preferences of a show, the Sound of the ALSA-Default-Input will be broadcasted to the audience and is recorded simultanously.

So, am I wrong with my assumption? I'm unsure now!

  • Your assumption is very logical, and where we would like to get the feature to. We've considered removing it until it works this way, but it turns out many users still find it useful at the moment.

Since the current ticket is only about Line-Input, I created another ticket for being able to choose which ALSA-device to open.

While having a massive convesation with @Daniel James in the last weeks, I thought of the ability to create different
"Input-Playlists" in the way like creating a webstream.

f.e. If you want to use 4 different ALSA-Stereo-Inputs,
you just need to create 4 "Studio Inputs",containing
different ALSA-Hardware-Device Names, like available in Mixxx.

IMHO this would lift up Airtime to another Level, because it would serve the crucial Multiple-Line-In-Feature almost any terrestrial Radio Station has.

  •  Has the live input to stream feature been fixed as of this date 11-30-2013? Would be helpful and is needed.

    Hi Gary,
    no changes on this.

In theory, it's possible with a hack of ls_script.liq
I have had heavy glitches, when testing this with old hardware. but it worked.
alsa-buffer and frame.size for liquidsoap are important.
there are a few discussions about this.

    cheers

  • Hi everybody!
Is the feature of live streaming implemented? So may I stream directly from line input on line output and icecast?

    Thanks!
  • I'd be very interested too! I think it's another major missing feature.
  • I cheat and have installed BUTT http://butt.sourceforge.net/ Then create a livestream for it.
No longer using Airtime or Libretime.
  • Nice tool, but it's not in real time, you have the encoding buffer it results in some secs in late.
What should be is as said hoerich, use alsa input. Liquidsoap is able to do that.
  • Because it's local, the buffer can be very short, but I agree.
No longer using Airtime or Libretime.
