Error: The site alias ..... not assigned to a publication. Please create a publication and assign it
  • Hello,

It is all setup correctly. It was all working well but all of a sudden it stopped working. The following types of alias were added:
    1) domainname.com
    2) www.domainname.com (set as default)
    3) http://domainname.com
    4) http://www.domainname.com

The problem is the above error is showing up with www.domainname.com and http://www.domainname.com whereas the sites seems good with domainname.com and http://domainname.com.

Please suggest what is the solution to this.

  • Hi Sid,

please make sure to follow all the steps as described here in the manual.

It seems to me, that you have not assigned the theme to your issue / publication correctly.

    Eva
  • Hello Eva,

I cross checked, it is all in place. The problem is, it was working till a few hours before. Then when I checked it again it was not. Please see above the domain prefix with www that only is not working. I even had these added as alias a few weeks before.

Please share your thoughts to help me to get this working.

    Thanks,
    Sid
  • Are you sure there is no spelling error in the alias?

By the way, the http:// is not needed. It's only a protocol and not part of the domain name.
  • Checked that! Infact the www. site which is set as default is giving an error and the other aliases are working absolutely fine.

That means without www. only the domainname.com is working fine.

then delete this alias and add again
  • It is still not working. Why do you think it works without www. and not with it?

I tested it in another browser but the same :(
  • Has there been this kind of problem before me? If yes, what was the solution then?
  • Hi Sid,

as Andrey suggested, I would also recommend restart from the beginning and follow the steps as explained in the manual for creating a publication.

    http://sourcefabric.booktype.pro/newscoop-42-for-journalists-and-editors/creating-a-publication/

"Default Site Alias is the name of the web server on which your publication will be hosted (e.g. www.example.com). This alias should match the ServerName
configured for the web server by your system administrator, unless the
Newscoop installation is in a subdirectory such as
www.example.com/subdirectory/ or similar. Newscoop enables multiple
publications to be hosted on the same physical web server, providing
that a unique alias has been set up for each publication by your system
administrator. If you try to access the alias URL before this setting is
made, you will see an error message indicating that the alias was not
    yet assigned to a publication."

Hope, this helps you in solving the problem!

    Best,
    Eva

Hi Sid, have you checked that your DNS is set up correctly so that the www.domainname.com alias is pointing to the IP address of the Newscoop server? For example, on the command line:

    ping www.domainname.com

should return the same IP as:

    ping domainname.com

    Cheers!

    Daniel
