The reason we give our users a choice of drivers is because some cards aren't fully supported by ALSA for example, and using another driver usually works. On my machine AO works much better than ALSA and it's a simple drop down menu change…

Have you tried using the AO output option? This appears to be the most reliable sound API. Also I'd recommend you upgrade to 2.1.3 since it fixes several other playback issues.

Unfortunately, this custom modification is a simple hack, and is the reason why Playout History doesn't work. Fallback playlists should be present in Airtime 2.3, and will resolve this issue.

stream switching latency problems
To get around the latency/buffering issue, you could simply connect to the master source ahead of time so that all authentication parameters are taken care of. Then simply "flick" the switch when it is time to go live.
