db connection configuration is placed in conf/dtabase_conf.php file I don't know how the shared hosting is configured but it maybe an issue of hosting instead of newscoop

that explains why interface works with lags. Postgres is used on each track/show/calendar manipulation. it seems that your vps is a bit slow for airtime.

I get a 500 error for http://www.mydomain.com/install it means that there is a php error. Check apache error log file for this.

[newscoop][fress install] Session Expires inmediatly
but a soon as I login the site admin I get the expire session, over and over again, it always prompt for me to log again it might be some php error. Check server response via firebug and apache error log also.

vps crashing
well, some time ago I had installed newscoop sites on vps with 256mb and it was working well under low load. Any way I suggest using max option (1G)

you can try 2Gb ram. Tune up the mysql settings to use more memory for buffers since default mysql conf file is not optimal

it's abnormal situation. In your case 4gb ram should be enough. Make sure that apc isn't installed. This is buggy in 64-bit environment. Use xcache instead.

Publishing schedule is not working ?
scheduled publishing is handled by cron task. Check are campsites cron tasks enabled. Otherwise you can add manually bin/campsite-autopublish script as cron task.

it seems like mysql incompatible issue. You can enable mysql logging. Try to add new user and find in the log the the result of execution of insert sql statement.
